AFTER HIS SHOP was robbed four times in the last two years, owner of Harry’s Corner Store, Elias Harry, is considering closing his business.
The store, located at the corner of Brittons X Road and Brydens Avenue, suffered its latest robbery last Wednesday night. A masked gunman barged in and escaped with about $500, taken from the cash register and from Harry himself, and a gold chain belonging to a customer.
Harry said he, his son and the customer were in the store at the time and were getting ready to close the shop when the incident occurred.
“It was around 8:30 p.m. and we were waiting for the lady to finish shopping. My son spotted the robber and rushed to close the door, but he pushed his way inside with the gun and told us to step one side.”
The owner said the man demanded money from the register and ordered him to empty his pockets.
“I gave him all the money in the till and then what extra I had, but just as he was leaving he snatched the chain from the lady’s neck and bolted out, before firing a shot so we wouldn’t peep out,” the owner stated.
The frustrated man said he had been forced to close earlier and earlier over the two years he had been operating, and said the time would soon come when he would call it a day. (CT)
