It was expected to be a foregone conclusion that MTW would defeat UWI to win their first Barbados Cricket Association’s Intermediate title today at the mecca of cricket.
And the Ince Transport sponsored side did just that.
But no one expected the drama that unfolded at Kensington Oval.
Although the match ended in a draw, which ensured MTW the victory, fans had plenty to talk about. MTW’s Justin Batson collided with his older brother Eric on the field, lay motionless for a few minutes after what seemed to be a harmless clash between siblings, and was was eventually transported by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for precautionary exams, having complained of neck and back pains.
Then, after UWI declared in a desperate attempt to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with an outright win, part-time bowler Nhamo Winn collected an exhilarating hat-trick.
But it was all in vain, as MTW weathered the storm, and both captains decided to call it a day with only one of the mandatory 15 overs in the final hour remaining.
