BOY, the way how things happening and the many things dat are actually happening nowadays, not only here in Barbados but all ovah the world, would make ya hold ya head and just holler fuh “Lord, have mercy”.
Leh me tell ya, evah single day ya open ya two eyes duh does be something tuh make ya shake ya head in wonder and disbelief. Something tuh confuse or frustrate ya. Something dat would and does make ya sick tuh ya stomach. Something tuh get ya vex as France. Something dat nuh matter how much ya would like tuh see it gone, or you would love tuh be able tuh change it, ya cahn do one single thing ’bout it.
We are living in some serious times when it seems like some people doan seem tuh care or give two hoots ’bout nuhbody else. We are living in a time when a man could just shoot down another man, sometimes his very friend, somebody who he grow up or even went tuh school wid, and yet he doan show nuh kinda remorse whatsoevah.
We are living in a time when children as young as three or four could be actually manipulating and controlling duh very parents, especially duh mothers.
We are living in a time when some young people, nuh matter how much ya beg and beseech dem tuh steer clear of certain bad behave elements in schools, pon the bus, in duh very villages, would tell you dat dem know wha’ dem doing and it is dem time tuh enjoy their lives so because something bad happen tuh so and so, or so and so get duhselves involved or caught in foolishness, it doan mean dat it gine happen tuh dem; nutten so cahn happen tuh dem.
We are living in a time when evahtime ya turn on ya television set ya could see violence, even in the very li’l cartoons dat are supposed tuh be funny, enjoyable and educational. Toys ain’t simple nuh more; evah single toy ya buy fuh the children is about somebody transforming duhself from one thing tuh the next. It just doan seem real anymore.
We are living in a time when politicians doan seem tuh know a truth from a lie, when some people, mainly young people, only see politicians as a means tuh an end, a handout, a freeness, a pappy show as opposed tuh be professional public servants who are placed in office tuh advance the well-being of the people and the country.
We are living in a time of wars and rumours of wars; a time of political uprising; a time of greed and distrust; a time of natural disasters; a time of health crisis; a time of self-destruction; a time of a lot of ignernts despite great knowledge.
But when ya say A, ya does have tuh say B.
Ya see, in spite of all o’ this confusion, frustration, devastation, struggles, turmoil, calamity, destruction and the lot o’ ignernts, I have tuh say dat it is still a wonderful world.
This morning and most mornings this week as I was taking my li’l grandsons tuh school, like I do every single morning. We were amazed at the most beautiful rainbows. We even took the time tuh enjoy the fresh air and the very rain sprinkling in the car. This morning alone one o’ my grandsons was pointing out tuh me why the sea is so deep blue at one part and then closer tuh the shore it was a much lighter shade. It is still a wonderful world when at this time of year we see the bougainvilleas and the frangipanis begin tuh flower and bloom; when people still stop tuh allow you tuh come out on tuh a main road. When children and people ya doan know from Adam still smile and say good morning.
It is still a wonderful world when in many areas in Barbados ya could still have ya doors open while ya relax during the day or even at night.
I thank God everyday for giving me the opportunity tuh live in such a wonderful place like Barbados and I hope you do the same thing too.
