O’NEAL HOUSE might have won the Alexandra School’s inter-house sports held yesterday at the National Stadium, but the day belonged to the indomitable Deon Hope of Skinner House who amassed 56 points in capturing the senior victor ludorum title.
Hope gave plenty of hope to his house in slamming the field in the 100, 200, 400 and 1 500 metre races and picked up second positions in the high jump and the javelin.
Equally impressive was the powerfully built Zalika Knight of Lyson, who was the princess of the track in destroying all opposition in the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 metres.
It was only in the relay events that the other athletes were able to exploit sluggish and late handovers to Hope and Knight in order to score psychological victories.
However, the performances from joint Under-15 Girls’ champions Nakisha Downes and Faith Husbands in contributing 50 points each; Under-13 queen Sasha Mayers’ 42 points and Terron Greenidge who captured the Boys’
Under-15 crown with 42 points ensured that the O’Neal dominance would remain.
All day, the action in the stands and on the track was hot with the competitors battling for bragging rights as it seemed that Frederick House would not overhaul the lead O’Neal established from morning.
Under-13 Boys’ champion Darin Weekes, and Khobi Carter in the Under-17 division, gave Frederick a fighting chance, but without the support cast which O’Neal produced, second place was the only remaining option.
Going into the relays, O’Neal maintained a healthy lead which ended with an advantage of over 140 points as they continued to rack up points in every event.
The junior victrix ludorum title was shared between Mayers, Husbands and Downes while the victor ludorum honour went to Weekes.
