Kirk Edwards had every reason to smile yesterday.
The 26-year-old Barbadian batsman will be heading off to the World Cup to join the West Indies cricket team.
Edwards’ call-up follows hamstring injuries to opening batsman Adrian Barath and wicketkeeper/batsman Carlton Baugh that have ruled them out of the tournament that opens tomorrow.
The West Indies Cricket Board, through the team manager, is making an application to the ICC technical committee for Barath and Baugh to be replaced in the squad and Edwards and wicketkeeper/batsman Devon Thomas have been put on standby before there is official confirmation.
