Barbados will host a two-day regional workshop on “Training in Web-Based Communication Infrastructure – Mechanisms for Data Transmission”, the Guyana-based Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat has announced.
It said that the March 8-9 event will be attended by information technology (IT) administrators within national statistical offices across the region and is being funded by the European Union under the Caribbean Integrated Support Programme (CISP) 9th European Development Fund arrangement that is supporting the development of statistics in CARICOM.
According to the organizers officials from the National Statistics Offices (NSOs) and the CARICOM Secretariat will be trained in the use and maintenance of the system developed for the transmission of data from CARICOM member states to the Secretariat through a secure web-based mechanism.
It said that the officials from the Secretariat recently participated in a public sector consultation in Jamaica hosted by the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN).
“The overall objective of the workshop was to explore and identify priority issues in data production and use, including the quality, institutional and capacity building components, as a first step in informing the Statistical Master Plan for establishment of a coordinated National Statistical System,” the Secretariat added.
