Honours for Brownies, Blossoms

IT WAS DIFFICULT to determine who was more proud at the Girl Guides Association of Barbados’ Thinking Day service yesterday – parents or their children.
The service took place at The People’s Cathedral, Bishop’s Court Hill, St Michael and featured several groups of Blossoms and Brownies receiving the highest honours they could achieve – Barbados awards.
As the smiling children were cheered on to receive their awards, many parents took the opportunity to capture the moment with cameras.
Reverend John Rogers spoke on the theme Empowering Girls Will Change Our World, challenging the audience to help youth, especially girls, to realize life was not about material things but peace of mind.
“It is about creating a society where girls can walk down Broad Street without men in Cave Shepherd saying what they want to do to them,” Rogers said.
“The challenge we all have . . . is to ensure our children have the best possible environment so they can find out who they are and live out an empowered life.”
