A number of the island’s private sector bosses and statutory bodies have been urged to measure employee performances within their organizations if they want to improve productivity.
During a special workshop hosted by the Productivity Council at The Savannah Hotel last Thursday under the theme Understanding Productivity And Performance Measures, over a dozen representatives were reminded of the importance for them to measure employees’ performances on a regular basis.
In her presentation, senior productivity officer with the Productivity Council, Joanne Mapp, told the gathering that employers should make sure staff regularly upgraded their skills to undertake their jobs effectively.
According to Mapp, performance measurements provided employers with important data on “how the organization is doing in specific areas”.
“It should tell you a few things or answer a few questions – whether or not things in the organization are improving, if you have moved from position ‘A’ to position ‘B’ or is it getting worse, or if things have remained unchanged”.
She also encouraged employers to discuss worker performance at staff meetings and encourage input from employees at all levels in the organization.
