TALK BACK: Videos, blogs keeping you posted online

This week I have chosen to deviate slightly from the usual format of this column to highlight some of the exciting things we at the Nation Publishing Co. Limited are doing on our website NATIONNews.com.
The focus recently has been on sports, and with the action on the track at the National Stadium and some school grounds for the Inter-House Championships, sports journalist Sherrylyn Toppin has been the NATION’S point person for that coverage.
Toppin is no stranger to the sports arena and has almost single-handedly over the years been responsible for the comprehensive coverage of the annual school sports.
This year is no different except for the fact that she has added video coverage as part of her reports.
Readers can view video from some of the secondary schools’ inter-house sports on the website. If you missed it over the last couple weeks, don’t fear; you can still log on to the website or the Nation’s Facebook page this week for videos of upcoming sports.
Another exciting feature on the website is the live blogging in real time.
Over the past three days, cricket enthusiasts here, across the region and the world would have been able to follow the ball-by-ball reports, scores and polls posted by Associate Editor (Sports) Haydn Gill who is covering the four-day match between Barbados and Jamaica at Kensington Oval.
On Day One, 764 people were following Gill’s reports. He not only kept cricket fans up to date on the match, but also responded to the many questions and comments posted by his followers.
Today, you can catch Gill online for the final day of the match on www.nationnews.com/live.
I will also be live blogging on Wednesday at the Nation Talkback on the burning issue of the cost of living.
We are inviting our readers and fans to post their questions on the Nation’s Facebook page ahead of the two-hour meeting which starts at 7 p.m. at the St George Secondary School.
If you have questions for the panellists on the night of the meeting, you can also post them as I provide live reports.
We at the Nation welcome all your comments and feedback.
Our online readers continue to follow and debate issues and stories posted and we encourage you to continue that dialogue and TALKBACK.
