TINO BEST has been discarded after one match following his return to the Barbados team from a one-match suspension.
The exuberant pacer bowled disappointingly in the WICB third-round match against Jamaica that ended at Kensington Oval yesterday and the selectors have found no room for him in a 13-man squad to face Guyana at the Providence Stadium starting on Friday.
Ryan Layne, a leg-spinner and a teammate of Best at ESA Field Pickwick, has been called up to national duty for the first time since playing two first-class matches in 2005. The 28-year-old had a successful Division 1 season last year with 56 wickets.
Pedro Collins, who missed the match against Jamaica because of a lower back injury,  returns to the squad.
The 29-year-old Best, Barbados’ most impressive bowler in the opening match, was slapped with a one-match suspension after displaying unprofessional conduct while expressing concern with the fitness drills two days ahead of the second-round match.
The selectors chose not to pick him for the third-round match but he was reinstated to the squad after the Barbados Cricket Association board of management determined that there was “no obstacle to Mr Best returning to the Barbados squad and to be made available for selection in the final XI since his non-selection on this occasion was not for any disciplinary reasons”.
On his return to the team, Best made no impression, collecting one for 73 in 17 overs in the first innings and two for 62 from 13.3 overs in his second bowl.
Barbados are in sixth place in the standings on nine points, 13 behind joint leaders Jamaica, England Lions and Combined Campuses and Colleges
