FORMER CABINET MINISTER Rawle Eastmond is being sued by the woman charged with attacking him.
Attorney Andrew Pilgrim, in association with Lesley Cargill, filed the counter-charge in the Holetown Magistrates’ Court in St James yesterday on behalf of Haniyfa Reza White, a 32-year-old sales associate of Sion Hill, St James.
The counter-charge will be heard on Thursday when White returns to court after being granted bail.
For the counter-charge, Pilgrim started proceedings against Eastmond for allegedly assaulting White and occasioning actual bodily harm on February 15.
He said his client had submitted a medical report to the police before she was charged in connection with the alleged post-Valentine’s Day attack on Eastmond.
The charge against White is that on February 15 she unlawfully entered in a wanton, or insulting or threatening manner on Eastmond’s premises at Upper Carlton, St James, and that she unlawfully assaulted him.
Pilgrim is contending that the charges were only allegations.
Magistrate Ian Weekes yesterday instructed White to stay far from Eastmond, the long-standing Member of Parliament for St James North, and his family.
She was also told to vacate her present location in Eastmond’s neighbourhood by noon today.
Magistrate Weekes said that matters of the heart were always a difficult issue and he hoped that White would use the intervening period for reflection and introspection.
“One of the conditions of bail is that you (White) must not be in the neighbourhood of the complainant. You are to stay away from him and his spouse,”?Weekes said.
Four-time calypso monarch David Kid Site Piggott signed bail for the mother of two.
“She is a friend and I am here to help and be there for her,” he said.
