TT police off the job

Police officers in Trinidad stayed away from their jobs today as public servants gear for another round of industrial action on Tuesday in a bid to force the Trinidad and Tobago government to increase its five per cent wage offer.
The Police Social and Welfare Association (PSWA) said it had ordered its members to stay out of buildings it considers unsafe, thereby affecting police stations across the country.
PSWA president, Anand Ramesar, said the operations at many police stations would be badly affected.
“There are many police stations, not those restricted to the Port of Spain area,” he said, adding “everything else that may or may not occur would be of an informal nature”.
Earlier this month, police officers failed to turn up for duties on two days, forcing soldiers to be used to guard the private homes of Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and the Chief Justice Ivor Archie. (CMC)
