Harvest of song

THERE WAS MUCH to give thanks for at this year’s Agrofest held in Queen’s Park last weekend.
The crowds over the three days were massive, vendors had a variety of stock for display and purchase, there was lots to eat and drink, and even if one were not interested in the various breeds of sheep, goats, pigs, cows, rabbits, chickens and other livestock on display, the varied items and attractions were enough to make for a good evening out.
Fittingly, activities ended last Sunday night with prayers and worship to the one who is the giver of all things.
A line-up featuring some of the leading acts on the gospel scene provided entertainment and ministry not only to those who congregated close to the main stage but to all within the sound of their voices.
A young troupe from Praise Dance Academy, ranging in age from seven to 13, got things under way with a piece that set the tone for what was to come and some would say it got sweeter and sweeter as the acts went by.
Toni Norville took things to another level with a number of selections including Lord I Need A Friend and Reign.
She was followed by a dancing duo – Krisanne and a friend – with an inspirational dance that encouraged people who felt like they were at their wits’ end to “just stand”.
The Barbados Mass Choir had a few hundred more voices by the time it finished its set. Patrons were singing as they joined the choir in offering praise to God through songs like Me Never Get Weary Yet, Great Is Your Name, All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name and He Is Wonderful.
Up next was Zamar with Allison Norville-Forde on lead. They got people in the groove and singing to You Are Good, I Am A Friend Of God and I Will Bless The Lord.
Hozia Hinds was the lone individual male act on a night that was dominated by females. He was later joined by Allison Norville-Forde for Never Say Never.
Sammi Jane and the ever popular Sister Marshall also lent their voices to the occasion. Marshall sang her way into the hearts of patrons with the usual favourites like Walk Holy and Jesus Is All I Have.
The band Promise arguably had the biggest response of the night. They rendered several of their favourite tunes, which people sang along to. (YB/RP)
