NAPSAC getting hotter

The NAPSAC zone meets which started on Monday have been offering a living potpourri of colour, food, fashion and, of course, exciting battles on the track and field at the National Stadium, with no hint of things cooling off as the island’s primary schools battle for supremacy in 2011.
Just after dawn, the workers at the Stadium are hard at work ensuring that the facilities are ready for the thousands of parents and children who have been thronging the stands, laden with varying sizes of coolers carrying food and drink. Private security is just as thoroughly prepared while the concessionaires are busy firing up their grills and getting an assortment of drinks chilled.
By 7:45 a.m. some of the early birds have started lining up at the gates of the Stadium as Transport Board buses disgorge hundreds of athletes and their schoolmates, who are checked by teachers and helpful parents before heading to their assigned areas in the Stadium.
With the formalities out of the way, the MC’s call for those in the stands to make some noise was almost unnecessary as the children and adults begin screaming in response to every throw, jump and sprint of Barbados’ future athletes.
More excitement will abound today as it is the last zonal meet. After today’s tally it will be known which schools head off to the semi-finals.
