DEAR CHRISTINE: Help me take care of my son

Date:

Share post:

Dear Christine,
I am 23 years old and my son is one-year-old.
I am employed but my job doesn’t pay much.
I rent a room in a house, but after I pay my rent there is not any money for me to buy food or pampers for my son. Things are so tight with me that I am unable to put him into day care.
I am seeking some kind of assistance. I need help with a part-time job, some foodstuff and a day care facility with a nice, friendly environment so that I would not have to stay home from work as I have no one to keep my son.
Thank you for your help in advance.
– MF
Dear MF,
Being young, alone, and having to care of a baby on a pittance for a salary cannot be easy in these days of high prices.
I empathise with you and will do all in my power to assist. One of my helpers will contact you shortly to find out your specific needs, as well as to find out other jobs for which you might have skills.
That said, I need to ask about your family or the child’s father. Is any assistance forthcoming from any of them?
I’m not trying to put you on the spot here, MF, but in tough times like these it is essential that people pull together.
That’s where family and close friends come in.
Many people can attest to how help from their extended family allowed them to make ends meet. Such assistance came in the form of meals, parcels of food, and child care services.
Though many facets of the traditional family unit have unfortunately broken down here, the areas I mentioned are those in which your family might be able to help you. Having good friends, who are responsible, would also come in handy here.
Of course I do not know what type of relationship you have with your child’s father, but if he is employed he should be contributing to his son’s upkeep, even if the two of you are no longer together.
I strongly believe that men should live up to their paternal responsibilities, and I would urge you to go all out to ensure your son’s father supports him, if presently, he doesn’t.
– Christine
