Campbell Rudder, who for more than a decade has been Air Jamaica’s top marketing executive for the northern region of the United States, is going to be the Barbados Tourism Authority’s new Vice President of Marketing in the United States.
Rudder, 55, has been in the travel business in the U.S. and the Caribbean for the past 32 years. He assumes duties on March 21 and will be based in New York.
The Barbadian succeeds Richard Williams, who resigned about 18 months ago, and Urban Cumberbatch, who has been acting in the position ever since Williams’ departure. Cumberbatch returns to his substantive position as the BTA’s Senior Business development Officer based in Miami.
When contacted at his Brooklyn home, Rudder did not comment on the new position.
In addition to his long stint with Air Jamaica, Rudder served with BWIA for 13 years and before that he was with Nostrand Travel and Caribbean Holidays in New York.
In his new position, Rudder will be responsible for boosting travel from the United States to Barbados at a time when the U.S. economy is still reeling from the after-shocks of the worst global economic crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. (TB)
