Closer to NHC unit ownership

Despite delays, Government has made some progress towards transferring ownership of National Housing Corporation (NHC) units at Deacons, Ferniehurst and Rosemont to longstanding tenants.
Minister of Housing, Lands, Urban and Rural Development Michael Lashley told Parliament today that one hurdle to people taking possession – free of charge – of units they had occupied for at least 20 years was the fact that the properties had not been legally vested in the NHC.
“We have now prepared the Cabinet paper to vest the units at Deacons and Ferniehurst and Rosemont in the hand of the National Housing Corporation,” he stated in the House of Assembly.
“Once that vesting is completed, given the fact that in that area we do not have the [property] extentions [seen] in other areas, then we would be able to easier transfer titles in that area,” he said House of Assembly. (TY)
