Barbadians were today assured by Minister of Transport and Works John Boyce that there was never any intention to remove the silk cotton tree from Jackson, St Michael, to facilitate road works.
Public concerns developed over the past few days following an incorrect report in Monday’s DAILY NATION that an historic baobab tree would be cut down as part of the Greater Warrens Traffic Safety Improvement Project.
Boyce told the SATURDAY SUN he wanted to dispel rumours that the tree was to be demolished tonight.
“That is not so, and has never been so. In fact, permission was never even sought to destroy the silk cotton tree,” he said. (HLE)
