Holi day for local Hindus

The sounds of laughter and music, along with the distinct smell of baby powder and coloured dye, filled the air on Sunday as local Hindus and friends came together to celebrate ‘Holi’ (Phagwah).
‘Holi’ or ‘Phagwah’ is a celebration of harvest and a welcome festival for springtime in India.
The act of throwing dye and powder onto each other breaks all barriers of discrimination so that everyone looks identical and universal brotherhood is reaffirmed.
Head priest of the Welches Hindu Temple, Thakook Prashad, organized this year’s Holi where himself and other individuals from the temple celebrated and entertained the crowd.
Prashad hopes to bring more people – “the whole of Barbados” as he puts it – to Holi celebrations each year. (SM)
