MORE THAN 40 drivers will face the starter for the Barbados Association of Dragsters and Drifters (BADD) Twisted Drag Warz 2 on April 10 at Bushy Park.
And as the association tested their advance “Portatree” timing equipment ahead of the event, Steve Bruce in his Belleville Motor Oils Mitsubishi Evo III returned the fastest time of 7.60 seconds, sending an early warning that he could well be the one they all have to beat on race day.
Earlier this year, Bruce returned the fastest time of  8.187 seconds at the association’s first event for the new season at the same venue.
An outstanding performance was also recorded by newcomer Ricky Cozier in his RJ Racing Mitsubishi Colt, a machine powered by a well-tuned Evo VII  engine, and despite gearbox problems he still managed to postsome impressive times in the lower eight-second bracket.
Another driver catching the eye last Saturday at practice was Dwight Alleyne in a well-prepared Subaru WRX STI, who posted a time of 8.00 seconds, immediately sending a warning to all the other competitors that he is fully prepared to do battle.
Corey Stanford in his awesome Toyota Corolla AE 86 also was among the drivers who returned a good time as he posted a personal best of 8.10 seconds.
Chairman Nicholas Harrison, in an upbeat mood, said the new timing system not only has the capability to manage the day of racing, but would completely eliminate all the previous delays that were experienced before, so spectators were therefore guaranteed a day full of smooth drag racing.
He also confirmed that ten new members had been added to the association’s membership and the stage was set for some exciting drag racing on April 10.
The association is also reminding competitors who have not yet registered for the event, to do so before the registration deadline of 4 p.m. on April 6 at Motorsport Services, Haggatt Hall.
