More than $2 million in scholarships, book grants, and other academic prizes will be presented at the annual Students’ Awards Ceremony at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus today.
Thanks to the generosity of various donors, honorees will receive welcome funding and other assistance to defray the cost of their tertiary education.
The ceremony, to be held in Lecture Theatre 1 of the Roy Marshall Teaching Complex at 6 p.m., highlights the invaluable partnership between the university and its donor community.
This year, more than 50 corporate and individual donors have provided prizes for students who are selected from a rigorous, merit-based process. Both undergraduate and postgraduate students will be honoured for, among other accomplishments, sporting and academic excellence.
FirstCaribbean International Bank is among many corporate citizens making a contribution, funding 15 scholarships annually to a total of US$112 500 for study in any discipline.
These awards are shared among nationals of Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, the OECS territories and The Bahamas. (PR)
