You cannot become a prefect easily at this school, you got to earn it, says Principal of the Alexandra School Jeff Broomes.
Broomes was speaking today at the St Peter school during a Prefect Training Seminar for 68 fourth form students. The students were selected to attend the seminar. They are expected to become acting prefects next school term to fill as fifth form prefects go on Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) leave.
During the three-day seminar, the students were taught the defining components and significant challenges, prefects were likely to face.
Broomes said: “You cannot become a prefect easily at this school, you got to earn it.”
“If you are going to give people responsibility, you have to train them. . . .I don’t care too much about badges; I am more focused on what they are doing to earn the badges. We will have monthly reviews from senior prefects to identify who is doing their job and who is not doing their job and we will be prepared to remove people,” he said.
