UNITED WE STAND, united we succeed!
That could very well be the motto of Combined Campuses and Colleges’ (CCC) cricketers.
Both off-spin bowler Ryan Austin and opening bat Romel Currency believes the team spirit and support within the CCC camp contributed to their reaching the final of the 2011 West Indies Cricket Board’s Regional First-Class Championship.
“It was a total team effort. The guys are really together. CCC is really coming through and I hope in the final, we will obviously come out again and do the job and stay on top,” said Austin, who has a tournament-high 39 wickets at 19.33 runs apiece, while his eft-arm spin partner KaveshKantasingh has 37 wickets at an average of 17.62.“
CCC is a very improving team. We are coming out and sticking together. We are staying together and going everywhere together. We are a family, on and off the field,” Austin noted.
“That is what you need, team unity. I just want to say congratulations to the guys. It is a short period, coming into first-class cricket and we are actually dominating first-class cricket, so I hope the people around the region are really looking at CCC and obviously we can get some guysin the West Indies team as well,” he said.
Currency, who topscored in both innings with responsible knocks of 95 and 70 to gain the Man of the Match award in the 157-run semi-final victory over his former teammates, the Windward Islands, said he got the full support of his teammates despite lean  returns in the preliminary matches. Currency said the CCC players fully utilized the excellent facilities at the 3Ws Oval with Floyd Reifer  overseeing things.
“I think he does a good job and everybody played their part. Even the other players, who are not coaches as well, they would say, if you have a fault, you can work on a specific area so it’s a total team effort, everybody helps one another,” he said.
Currency, who has amassed 410 runs at an average of 27.33. also believes CCC can topple Jamaica in the final.
“We played against Jamaica and we had the better of them and the guys are fairly confident,” he said.
Currency said he wasn’t sure what level of preparation CCC would undertake in the days leading to the final.
