Reports of gas leak disrupting operations at the Grantley Adams International Airport

A suspected gas leak at the Grantley Adams International Airport has disrupted operations there.
Staff evacuated the retail shops, and their stations, and ticketing agents stopped issuing tickets.
An employee at the airport told NATIONNews that it was just about 3 p.m. when she started smelling strong fumes coming through the vents and saw other workers exiting the building.
Passengers and workers assembled in the carpark and the departure lounge.
Corporate Communications specialist at the airport Keith Goddard reported that passengers were in a safe area. He said, however, some aircraft were able to board passengers.
Goddard said he did not want to disclose too many details at the time as investigations were ongoing.
“The situation is fluid …the airport is still operational,” he said.
Goddard later reported that the all clear has been issued for passengers arriving, and Customs and Immigration officials are now back inside clearing those passengers. However, no all-clear has been given to those leaving the island as yet. (CM)
