Two police officers, one a female constable, were each granted $5 000 bail when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Deborah Holder in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court this morning to answer charges of assaulting a Jamaican woman in the holding cells of the Central Police Station some time between February 27 and 28.
Jonathan Birchmore Richard Barrow, 32, of Pasture Road, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael and 25-year-old Melanie Shantelle Lakeisha Denny of No 40 Golden Mile, St. Peter were charged last night in connection with the matter.
Barrow is accused of the serious indecency of the 27-year-old Jamaican woman who was being held in the cells following her arrest at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) on drug trafficking charges.
Denny is charged with aiding and abetting Barrow to commit an act of serious indecency on the woman.
They will reappear in court on September 1.
Sources indicated this morning that Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin will address the matter in a special Press conference.
The woman from the district of Spanish Town had alleged she was raped and sexually assaulted by three police officers.
