All four of the Day 1 leaders won their respective age groups at the first Multi-Event Trials hosted by the Amateur Athletic Association at the National Stadium.
In the final session which concluded on Sunday afternoon, Cristanna McConney, Ryan Vickers, Allana Ince and Ramarco Thompson topped their groups as they look ahead to the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Age Group Championships in the British Virgin Islands on July 1 and 2.
In the Under-13 age group, McConney of Queen’s College finished with 2317 points, winning the high jump (1.35 metres) and the 800m in 3 minutes 18 seconds to win four of the five events. Tameka Jordan of Rising Stars was second with 1 933 and BC Trac’s Ranicha Sargeant third with 1 581.
Vickers, also of Queen’s College, won the Under-13 boys’ division with 1 715 points, Ajani Ince was second with 1697 and Sharon’s Shaquon Sealy jumped from eighth to third with 1 542 points.
Ince rounded out the Queen’s College dominance of the trials, winning the Under-15 girls’ age group with 2 678 points. Elise Moffard of Rising Stars was second with 2 143, but Krista Maloney of BC Trac, who was slightly injured on Saturday, did not finish the last four events and remained on 917 points.
Ince won the 60m hurdles with 11.2 seconds (hand time), the long jump at 4.28m and the 1 000 in 4:13 minutes.
Moffard won the baseball throw with 27.40 metres.
Thompson of Freedom Striders won two of the last four events to wrap up with an outstanding 4 617 points. He won the baseball throw with 68.25m and the 1200 in 3:49. He and Mario Burke were both timed at 11.5 seconds in the 80m hurdles and Burke won the long jump with 5.94m, off his best of 6.26m.
Burke was second overall with 4 204 points and Shem Forde third with 3 132.
