Educators tackling violence in schools

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Educators and other key sector officials are meeting searching for answers to violence in the twin-island federation’s schools.
A Government release from the St Kitts and Nevis Information Service (SKNIS) said that over the next two days the team will discuss the way forward in implementing a plan for curbing violence in the nation’s schools.
It said the participants would discuss the framework for action and implementing the model; school-based interventions; behaviour management systems; as well as how to design a behaviour policy.
The release quoted the Project Coordinator, Dr Tricia Esdaille, as saying that the sessions were critical in creating “a stable foundation of understanding” for those who would be intricately involved in assisting students deal with the issues that often trigger violence.
It said each school’s “violence elimination” project would be based on its specific challenges and that no two schools would undergo identical intervention strategies.
The release did not say who was funding the programme or how much it would cost. (CMC)
