Barbadian shot and killed

HAMILTON, Bermuda — A grief-stricken Barbadian couple, who moved to Bermuda many years ago, are trying to come to terms with the death of their 26-year-old son who was gunned down and killed near his home after a night out at a popular boat club. The parents of David Clarke paid tribute to their son –the fourth person to be shot and killed in Bermuda this year. Seven people were killed last year. No arrests have been made in this latest killing. “He was a loving person. We would do things together – he was a good kid,” David Clarke, Sr told reporters: National Security Minister Wayne Perinchief said he was “deeply troubled” by the murder in his Pembroke Central constituency on Sunday night. Police said the 26-year-old was riding home on his bike after spending the evening at the Mid Atlantic Boat Club when he was shot multiple times at close range. “All I can say is it’s very concerning,” said Perinchief, adding ““It’s deeply troubling, especially the pattern (of gun murders). It seems every month a young man loses his life.” The young man died despite the efforts of an off-duty emergency medical technician to save him. Clarke, Sr and another son, 20-year-old D’Angelo, arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and broke down in grief. Neither he, nor his wife Angela, can understand why someone took their son’s life. While his neighbourhood is notorious for gang activity, the couple said they did not know their son to have any gang links. The couple moved to Bermuda when David was a young boy. Their daughter, Janell, 29, who is a lawyer in Barbados, plans to travel to Bermuda later this week. (CMC)
