For optimists, February is celebrated as the JOOI (Junior Optimist Octagon International) Reading Month.
During this month, optimists are encouraged to either read a book with a child or help with the development of reading skills among youths.
This year, the Harrison College Optimist Club held its first book drive to collect books to dedicate to children at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The response was overwhelming, and the club collected more than 100 books in two weeks.
The books were presented to the Children’s Ward by club president Akeem Stewart, and advisers Shanice Nightengale and Kelly Hunte.
