Windies win by 40

Eight million Caribbean cricket fans are all smiles today.
But no smile is bigger than Darren Sammy’s.
The embattled West Indies skipper earned his first win in a Test match today, when the boys in maroon defeated Pakistan by 40 runs at the Providence Ground in Guyana.
The Windies had not won a Test match since February 2009, 17 long matches before this one.
And it was Sammy who provided most of the fireworks, collecting five invalubale Pakistan second innings wickets that changed the fortunes of the match, and set the Windies on their way. It was the captain’s fourth Test five-wicket haul, earning him the man-of-the-match award.
Along with the skipper, pacer Ravi Rampaul also chipped in, again bowling his heart out to earn four Pakistan scalps, as the visitors were bowled out for 178 at 1:28 p.m. The win was the first on Guyanese soil for the home team since 1998. “This is a good feeling. It was a total team effort,” Sammy said afterwards. “This was all for West Indies cricket,” he added. (BA)
