A?27-YEAR-OLD pool attendant at the Sandy Lane Hotel was hospitalized yesterday after being shocked while using a dishwasher machine.
Bjorn Toney, of Snagg Hill, Bush Hall, St Michael, is said to be in stable condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Reports indicate that Toney was putting glasses in the dishwasher when his hands got stuck.
An employee told the DAILY?NATION that it was a frightening experience for staff.
“He was stuck on the machine for about 20 minutes. A staff member tried to pull him off and then he had to be resuscitated because his heart had stopped beating.”
The staff member added that the particular dishwasher had been malfunctioning for sometime and other workers had also been shocked while using it.
When contacted, Janelle Hunte, sales and marketing coordinator at the St James hotel, issued the following statement:
“We are aware our champion Bjorn Toney is currently a patient in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention.
“The management and staff of Sandy Lane extend our prayers to him and his family and hope for Mr Toney’s complete and swift recovery. Our focus is exclusively on the recovery of our champion. We have no further comment at this time.”
Police also confirmed the incident and said they were investigating. Toney and his wife Lisa won THE NATION’s Forever I?Do wedding competition in 2009. (MB)
