I am writing on my own behalf and that of many others who were enumerators for the Population and Housing Census on May 1 last year.
First, let me say thanks to all of the media houses that jumped in and helped us to get part of the monies owed to us by the Statistical Department. And I said part because in May 2011 there are quite a number of us who have done more than one enumerator’s district (ED) still awaiting payment from this census.
I must say numerous calls were made querying our payment. We are still being told that only one person can answer our queries.
We worked hard in both the sun and rain, trying to get the information from the public, and now it looks like we will never live to see those payments.
It is very ironic that the director responsible cannot deal with this matter since we are otherwise being ignored.
Enumerators should have had all of their monies a long time ago. We should not be begging for it a year later.
Some of us have contacted the Prime?Minister, the Minister of Finance and our clergy, and after a year we are still waiting.
The labour laws say when someone has worked they should be paid, so what about us? Doesn’t that apply?
Are we going to have to wait as long as Al Barrack or should we join him at the United Nations?

Dear Frustrated,
I spoke with Trevor David at the Barbados Statistical Office about this letter, and he has asked you and those others who worked but have so far not received payment to get in touch with the department immediately.
Be prepared to state your name, if or when your questionnaires were submitted and other details.
Investigations will be undertaken based on the information you provide and officials will get back to you in the quickest time possible.
Mr David made it clear that the department was committed to expediting this situation, so I think you should do as he has asked.
I also urge you to keep us informed of this situation.
