A ST MICHAEL community is no longer living in fear of some unwelcome neighbours – a hive of aggressive bees that had moved in recently.
Rufus “Izon” Shepherd of Knights Road, Lower Westbury Road, St Michael, said the bees moved in about five days ago and had since “terrorized” the neighbourhood.
“They had people running and even came into people’s houses. They stung three people and killed two dogs. We just want them gone,” he said.
Yesterday a team from Sawh Beehiving Enterprises, led by Tulsie “Brian” Sayersing, removed the hive.
Erskine Leslie was among those who were stung. He told the WEEKEND NATION his story as he showed his swollen right hand.
“I was cleaning the bush in my yard yesterday [Wednesday]; they started to swarm and started stinging me, so I went back inside while they continued to fly around for the next 15 minutes,” he said.
Sonia Hewitt said her son’s nine-year-old pit bull Putch was not as lucky as it died from its injuries following a bee attack on Tuesday.
“I heard the dog pelting itself against the galvanize and when I looked I saw a lot of bees like they were stuck on him. Last night [Wednesday] he was unresponsive, and this morning [Thursday] my son found him dead.
“I am very disturbed over the dog’s death as it was my friend, but suppose it had been a child?” she queried.
Sayersing said he and his team were going to destroy the bees because they were behaving far too aggressively. (CA)
