Ninty-one cars are entered for today’s Shell V-Power King Of The Hill from Hangsman’s Hill to Lions Castle, St Thomas.
The event, organised by the Barbados Rally Club (BRC), is the final shakedown for the competitors before Sol Rally Barbados next weekend. It has attracted competitors from no less than 14 countries.
Competitors completed scrutineering at Simpson Motors yesterday and the list is nine short of the number entered for Sol Rally Barbados.
Much of the attention will be on last year’s King Of The Hill winner Paul Bourne who will be in the WRC Banks/Chefette/MQI/Castrol Ford Focus WRC07.
Also in the spotlight will be Roger Skeete, the Sol Rally winner last year (One World Group/ Michelin/Simpson Motors/Da Costa Mannings Auto Centre/Virgin Atlantic Subaru Impreza WRC S12), Sean Gill (Simpson Motors/Shell V-Power/Automotive Art/Chefette Suzuki SX4 WRC) and Roger Hill (Esso/Nassco/MotorMac Toyota Corolla WRC).
Challenges are also expected to come from the likes of Paul Bird (Frank Bird Poultry Ford Focus WRC08), Rob Swann (Automate CGI/Waves Hotel and Spa/Revolution Wheels/R A Swann Ltd Subaru Impreza WRC S12), Gary Gregg (Gregg & Bros Ford Focus WRC05) and John Powell (Intercontinental Shipping Ltd Subaru Impreza WRC S12).
Rallye Sunseeker winner Roger Duckworth (Intrinsys/Kumho/Autosportif Subaru Impreza WRC) is also down to face the starter in the top-class group.
Competition is expected to be equally fierce in the lower groups in the event in which competitors will be allowed one pratice run and three official runs over the diverse course.
Shell V-Power King Of The Hill is being staged at its fourth different venue as the BRC ensures that it uses stage mileage not part of the main event each year; Turner’s Hall in 2008 was followed by Stewart’s Hill and Sailor Gully.
The service area is at Simpson Motors, Warrens, which will also be the venue for the prize-giving after the day’s action.
