The Savannah Hotel and Time-Out-At-The-Gap are to get a $3.5 million makeover in time to welcome guests by the start of the 2011-2012 Winter season in December.
The two former “Gems of Barbados” properties, which are both located on the south coast, were recently leased for a nine-year period by businessmen Bernie Weatherhead and Ludo Marcelo of Waves Hotel.
In an exclusive interview recently, Weatherhead said the two properties “will operate as full-fledged hotels under one umbrella”, together with Sugar Cane Club, Waves Hotel and Worthing Court.
The Time-Out-At-The-Gap Hotel, which has more than 75 rooms, will seek to attract a much younger market, while the 95-room Savannah Hotel will cater to families and business travellers.
Weatherhead further said that Virgin Holidays would play a major role in The Savannah, while Time-Out-At-The-Gap would target a variety of tour operators.
Weatherhead recently took over the operations of CLICO General to be rebranded as Sun General.
He also owns a number of tourism-related businesses, including travel agencies, car rental agencies, tourist attractions and I-Mart retail shopping stores.
