Afternoon delight of Jazz

Naniki amphitheatre, embraced by St Joseph’s lush, rolling hills, was roused from its slumber for a vibrant social experience with the sound of jazz yesterday.
It was a Sunday evening made for jazz purists as pianist Neil Walker mesmerised with his exuberant interpretations of local and regional ditties like John Belly Mamma and Murder In De Market, while Archie Alleyne and his jazz sextet, Kollage, filled the environs with their big-band sound.
But it was ace drummer and trio leader Roy Haynes’ sensitive treatment and almost spiritual connection with his instrument that screamed “afternoon delight” for the growing audience.
