Man dies on his way to doctor

THE FAMILY of 65-year-old Heswith Small, of Bagatelle Garden, St Thomas, was left shaken yesterday after he collapsed and died while driving along Holders Hill, St James.
Small’s stepdaughter Melony Joseph told the WEEKEND NATION that her step-father who was on vacation, left home around 11 a.m to go to the mechanic.
She said that the family was shocked upon receiving the bad news because the father of three was not known to have had any serious health problems.
She remembered Smith, a labourer at Ready Mix Limited for more than 40 years, as a very nice person who was family-oriented and feared God.
 “Apparently he was driving and he wasn’t feeling so well. He went into a nearby shop and asked the lady where the nearest doctor was located and she told him where. He left the shop and was on his way to the doctor, but he did not make it,” Joseph said.
Close to tears, she added: “He would leave himself out for his family and he loved his grandchildren. The last thing he told them this morning was, ‘Ya’ll look good, behave good too.”
Small’s car was seen moving at a slow pace by employees of the Barbados Light & Power. They realised something was wrong and brought it to a halt. Small was dead inside the car. (AH)
