Ramarco Thompson was the winner of The Clash: Part 2, which finally came off yesterday at the National Stadium during the 2011 Pacers Track Club Invitational.
Denied the chance to run against Mario Burke of the High Performance Programme after a false start at Inter-School Sports in the highly anticipated 200-metre clash, Thompson came out of the turn all alone and went on to win in 24.14 seconds.
He was disappointed with the time after running 22.17 recently when he ran alongside Levi Cadogan of Quantum Leap. Cadogan didn’t run the 200 metres and Burke was second in 24.52.
All three faced the starter in the 100m, but it was Pacers’ Joshua Walcott who won in 11.39 seconds. Cadogan was second in 11.44 and Burke third in 11.52.
Shakera Reece of Quantum Leap won the women’s 100m in a disappointing 12.04 seconds from Foundation’s Katrina Weir (12.50) and the 200m in 23.90, with Weir second again in 24.50.
Jade Bailey was a no-show.
Alexandra’s Deon Hope did the men’s double, winning the 100m in 10.93 seconds and the 200m in 21.80 seconds. There were also several no-shows in that field.
Pacers’ Anthonio Mascoll pulled away from Jamil Jones (47.91) over the last 80 metres to win the men’s 400m in 47.70 seconds. Nadia Cummins of Wibisco Stars won the women’s 400m in 55.90 with Parkinson’s Sonia Gaskin second in 56.70.
With Mascoll absent from the 800m, Jerrad Mason of Rising Stars won in 1 minute 53.30 seconds and Cindy Forde of Freedom Striders held off Shani Adams (1:55.15) to take the women’s race in 2:16.30.
In the hurdles, Tramaine Maloney of Rising Stars was a double winner with 14.84 seconds in the 110m distance, looking over at Greggmar Swift, who is home from university, and smiling as he beat him on the line in 14.85.
Swift was at the Olympic height, while Daley Carter of Quantum Leap was third in 14.94.
Maloney closed on the field in the final 200m to win the 400m hurdles in 54.31 seconds. Dario Scantlebury was second in 54.81 and Pacers’ Kion Joseph third in 54.91.
Shakera Hall won the women’s 100m hurdles in 14.74 seconds and Kenrisha Brathwaite was second in 14.94.
In the field events, Akela Jones leapt 6.10m to win the women’s long jump and Pacers’ Charles Greaves took the men’s equivalent with 6.92m.
Tristan Whitehall of BC Trac put the shot 16.88m and Nicoliai Bovelle of Elite Distance threw the javelin 64.07 metres for their victories.
Many of the younger athletes from the Jumpstart programme were also in action. Akayla Morris won the Under-11 Girls’ 150m in 21.34 seconds from NSC’s Rhea Hoyte (21.54) and then returned to win the 100 in 14.32, with Shaquana Scott of Jumpstart second in 14.43.
Raheem Taitt-Best of Jumpstart also did the double, winning the 150m in 20.64 and the 100 in 14.39.
Jumpstart’s Shontae Cole won the Under-13 Girls’ 100 in 13.23, and Antonio Weekes of Rising Stars, the 100 in 13.03.
Tameka Jordan of Rising Stars won the Under-15 Girls’ 200m in 27.44 seconds, and Josiah Atkins of Jumpstart, the boys’ race in 26.52. Jalisa Burrowes of BC Trac took the 100 in 13.32.
