THE?BELEAGURED AIRLINE REDjet has been given some critical support by this island’s political directorate.
Members from both sides of the House of Assembly yesterday came out in support of the new start-up airline, which has been having a torrid time as it tries to penetrate the Trinidad and Jamaican markets.
After weeks of trying, REDjet has only been able to secure a regular scheduled service to Guyana, and yesterday announced it would be laying off eight of its cabin crew, a move the airline hopes will be temporary, as it seeks permission to fly to Trinidad and Jamaica.
In a firm show of support for the airline, some Members of Parliament addressed the benefits it would bring to regional air transport, as they spoke on the second reading of the Grantley Adams International Airport Inc. (Exemption from Taxation) Bill 2011. (ES)
