A battered world

WELL I GINE tell ya something now: if I didn’t know dat there was a God who the Bible say made the heavens and the Earth, dat He ain’t dead yet and is still in control, I would be frightened as France tuh get outta my bed when the morning come.
You only gotta look around and you would see wha’ I talking ’bout. Evah single time ya put on the TV or radio, ya does see and hear about some disaster or the other, some war or the other, some uprising or the other, some struggle or the other, some crime or the other – and not one place but all over the world.
It is as if something out there just stirring up the atmosphere and causing a whole lot o’ turmoil.
Talking ’bout disasters, ovah the last year America has been getting battered left, right and centre wid storms, hurricanes and late last year blizzards dat shut down the north-eastern states.
During this year alone, storms and tornadoes like mad have been hitting actually many states, causing the rich tuh be pon the same level as the poor once dat tornado or storm passes by leaving death, destruction, along wid a whole lot o’ confusion and misery in its path.
Look, the other evening I sat down wid one o’ my sisters and a nephew and watched pon National Geographic how the many tornadoes was forming and developing, causing all sorts o’ people tuh run and seek shelter tuh protect demselves and duh families from the wind monster dat was bearing down pon dem.
But the story dat really had me was pon BBC America wid a fella interviewing three young men who say dat they were in a gas station when duh see the tornado approaching.
The fellas say dat the attendant, along wid about 20 other people, huddled in a beer storage container when the tornado hit and one o’ dem was taping it pon the cellphone. All ya could see was black and then flashes o’ light and the noise.
But the thing dat hit me hard was the noise from the people inside the container, the shouts and the voice of a woman screaming and shouting at the top o’ she lungs fuh Jesus all the time.
The boys say dat evahbody was saved, but the entire gas station was destroyed.
I had tuh say the other day dat the drug people like duh ain’t care bout nuh law, nutten. No matter how many o’ dem get caught wid the drugs, duh like duh just intend tuh corrupt the minds o’ the young and old alike, as long as dem getting the money. I seeing bare greed and corruption all ovah the place.
People in Barbados at all levels carrying away the people copper and trying tuh get it sold. But the other day I was reading ’bout a fella – I think he is the manager – who said dat when duh bring it tuh his company, sometimes he does have tuh ask dem where duh get it from and he say dat he doan buy nutten ’cause he ain’t getting charge fuh nutten.
Up in the Middle East, in dem Arab countries, it look like if all o’ dem regular, everyday people just decide dat duh had enough o’ duh leaders. Some o’ dem who was in control fuh as long as 40 years carry way all the people money, got it stashed in banks all ovah the world and living large while the poor people scrunting and barely making it.
All kinds o’ turmoil going on in these countries and it has now gotten tuh the point where duh killing off duh own people, children and all wid-out conscience for the sake o’ money and power.
All sorts o’ foolishness going on pon the earth.
Nowadays in Barbados the heat would kill ya. The place is as hot as a sauna. Ting, nuh matter how much liquids ya drink, ya still hot and thirsty.
The other day the electricity went off out by me and I promptly called the electric company, and the lady told me dat it was going tuh be back on in one hour. She didn’t tell me the truth because the power was off from around 12:30 till close to five o’clock, and all o’ this time I sweltering in the heat and dripping in sweat. Not a bit o’ wind was blowing, so you would understand.
My Lord, creation is really groaning.
