THREE BRITISH NATIONALS charged with disruptive behaviour onboard a Virgin Atlantic aircraft en route to Barbados were fined a total of $22 500 yesterday and told they were lucky their birthday celebrations did not land them in jail.
Derek John Edmond, 76, his 46-year-old daughter Zoe King and 49-year-old son-in-law Martin King appeared before Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell in the District F Magistrate’s Court after their celebration of Zoe’s birthday turned ugly and ended  in a mid-air fight with a number of passengers.
The magistrate fined each $7 500 with the alternative of one month in prison. The fines were paid.
According to police and airline reports, around noon on Thursday the pilot of the Boeing 747-400, which was carrying 229 passengers and 16 crew members, notified local authorities of a fight involving about 12 people. The flight landed safely at Grantley Adams International Airport around 2:20 p.m.
