Barbadian manufacturers have been promised that CARICOM non-tariff barriers now standing in their way will be removed “very shortly”.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Darcy Boyce, told manufacturers at the opening of BMEX?2011 on Friday night that Government would do all it could “to ensure that Barbadian products enjoy fair treatment in all the markets targeted by our exporters”.
In response to manufacturers’ concerns about the high cost of fuel, Boyce also promised Government would pass on any benefits from falling oil prices when possible.
Delivering the feature address at the opening of expo at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, he said Government intended to create opportunities for small business development and the growth of innovative ideas that would empower people.
The minister called for a change in the Barbadian perception of locally produced goods, insisting they could “stand the test anywhere in the world”.
