Hectic China trip for PM

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart arrived in China yesterday, at the start of a hectic, one-week official visit.
Stuart is the latest Barbadian head of Government to accept an invitation to pay an official visit to the People’s Republic of China.
Noting that he welcomed the opportunity to visit the country that was quietly emerging as the leading economy, Stuart said he was looking forward to successful talks with the Chinese leadership on important bilateral and international matters.
Stuart is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Senator Maxine McClean and other senior Government officials.
He is expected to hold discussions on alternative and renewable energy, education and infrastructural development and ways to further strengthen China Barbados relations.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to sign two bilateral agreements today with his Chinese counterpart.
Yesterday Stuart and his delegation held talks with the Barbados Ambassador to China Sir Lloyd Sandiford, and visited the historic Forbidden City. Later he met with a number of students and other Barbadians in China, as well as with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) ambassadors in Beijing during an official reception. (BGIS)
