Mix for a good time

CELEBRATION TIME calypso tent gave a sneak preview of its young line-up last Thursday night when it held a media launch at the Plantation Garden Theatre, Christ Church.
This year’s line-up promises a mixed bag of goodies with some bright, new, young talent as well as the well known veterans who are set to hit the stage from July 3.
The packed line-up includes The General (Edwin Yearwood),  Li’l Rick, Khiomal, Donella Weekes, Keeann, Ishaka McNeil, Queen T, De Coopa, Under Dawg, Red Man, Summer, Nikki C, Hypa Kids and Kirk Browne.
At the launch, tent manager Peter Boyce said he too will be hitting the stage. He also said he sided with Red Plastic Bag on the position that young people must be given chances to showcase their talent.
Boyce also echoed calypso veteran Adonijah’s call for a Bajan radio station to play 100 per cent local music.
He said with the wide range of talent available here and the large volume of spouge, calypso, reggae, gospel and even R&B music, such a programme was needed.
“When you hear of a 100 per cent Bajan radio station, the first thing that comes to mind would be calypso, but we have much more than calypso here. So there’s no reason we can’t do it,” he said.
Patrons will flock to the Alexandra School on July 10 for the Northern Show, while calypsonians will face the judges on July 11 at the Plantation Garden Theatre.
July 16 will see the Kids Matinee Show also at the Plantation Garden Theatre, while the Best Of Crop Over show will be held July 26 at the Wildey Gymnasium. (CT)
