EDMONTON – Barbadian trio of Rico Walcott, Kyle Carter and Desmond Bryan scored impressive wins to take a share of the glory on Friday’s card at Northlands Park.
Walcott, who leads the jockeys’ standings with 20 wins, had to wait until the final event on the eight-race card to land his success aboard 7-1 bet Little Sunshine.
Earlier, Carter had piloted the three-year-old bay gelding Appealing Trip to a handsome win in race two while Bryan steered Pickinontheolbanjo to victory in race six.
Walcott is four clear of Fernando Perez with Bryan tied for 11th with seven wins from 95 starts and Carter 13th with six wins from 70 rides.
Going six furlongs in race eight, Walcott survived a bump at the start to sit off the pace as Nashville Nugget, Ghost Girl and Outrageous Affair battled for the early lead.
Ghost Girl established a clear lead at the half-mile with Walcott holding Little Sunshine four lengths back in fourth.
In the stretch, Walcott rallied the five-year-old chestnut mare and she responded gamely, grabbing the lead in mid-stretch to reach the wire 2-1/4 lengths clear. (CMC)
