THE SECOND TIME proved the charm for Warriors.
Kareem Farrell had eight of his game-high 20 points in the extra period as First Works Warriors survived a furious fourth-quarter rally before holding on for a 73-67 overtime victory against Roll-A-Way St John’s Sonics in Tuesday’s Premier League basketball action at the Wildey Gym.
It was the second extra session Warriors played this season but just their first overtime win following a 96-91 season-opening heartbreaker against Station Hill.
However, this one never appeared to be heading to an extra period after Warriors led by as many as 13 points (39-26) at the half before taking a 52-41 lead into the fourth.
But the Dayrells Road side managed just eight points in that period while facing a rally sparked by Stefan Clarke and Jefferson Trotman – the latter of whom hit a game-tying triple right before the buzzer.
Farrell eventually pulled it out, though, making his way to the rack and the free throw line to give Warriors (7-2) their seventh win in eight games. Kevin John added 16 points and Trevor Simmons added 11.
Clarke topscored for Sonics (2-4) with 20 points while Trotman weighed in with 16 points.
The win kept Warriors within a half-game of leaders Act II Popcorn Clapham Bulls (8-2), who won their eighth game of the season following a gritty 73-68 victory over the slumping Co-operators General Tridents (3-6).
