BWA heaviest energy user

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA), which pumps about 30 million gallons of water per day, is perhaps the heaviest user of energy on the island.
“The [Barbados] Water Authority is our single biggest customer and water usage represents the single biggest element other than use in the hotel industry,” said Peter Williams, managing director of the Barbados Light & Power.
“Just a single usage of electricity to pump and distribute water, just sorting that problem out is going to be a big saving for Barbados. We have approached the [Barbados] Water Authority on a number of occasions. And I think we need to have the impetus and support to get that message through that that is going to make a difference in terms of energy conservation.”
Williams was speaking during the Barbados Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon at Hilton Barbados yesterday. (MM)
