Social partnership should be clear

MINISTER OF LABOUR and Social Security Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo believes Barbadians need to be educated about the work of the social partnership.
She was speaking earlier today during a breakfast meeting at Hilton Barbados to announce the handover of the chairmanship of the Barbados Private Sector Association from Ben Arrindell to chief executive officer of Cave Shepherd and Company Ltd John Williams.
“Too often I’ve found that I’ve asked, let’s say, the man on the street about the social partnership and I would get comments like ‘oh that is Sir Roy and the eight per cent’.
“Clearly for too many people there’s not an understanding of what the social partnership is and what it is today,” Byer-Suckoo said.
She noted that more people need to understand that the social partnership is more collaborative than confrontational these days.  (NB)
