Ministry gets tough with builders

The Ministry of the Environment is seeking to ensure that building on watercourses and causing drainage problems will be a thing of the past.
Minister Denis Lowe said he would be insisting that no town planning permission is given without consultation with his ministry.
Speaking at an awards ceremony for outstanding employees at the ministry’s Hincks Street office on Wednesday, the minister said too often those buildings caused problems not only inland but also along the island’s shorelines.
“What is happening now is that a lot of permissions are given or have been given in the past where builders have built on watercourses, and completely impact on the direction of the run-off storm water and we now having all kinds of problems.” (CT)
