THE?rodent situation at the Geriatric Hospital is seemingly under control.
Deputy general secretary of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Roslyn Smith, said the Environmental Health Inspectorate had put measures in place to curb the rat infestation.
“They have had a first-hand look and have rebaited the compound. I am happy that something is being done to allay the fears of the staff,” she said.
Smith told the SATURDAY?SUN?that recommendations had been made for a clean-up and removal of garbage from the hospital in a timely manner.
“I am happy with the rapid response from the Environmental Health Inspectorate. A hospital should be squeaky clean. Rats have no place in a hospital, especially one in which the majority of the patients are bedridden,” she said.
Last week, there were complaints from nurses that rats had invaded the corridors and wards of the Beckles Road hospital. (MK)
